How results are ordered: alphabetically by institution, or by most recently checked when you choose that sort. There is no price ranking, because tuition in different currencies, fee categories and bases (per year, per credit, whole program) is not comparable. A program appears under a subject only through a verified link (dedicated degree, major, concentration or documented pathway). A value we could not verify is shown as “not published”, never as “no”. Items marked Sponsored are paid placements; they never change verification or order. Online programs are not counted as physically located in a state or city, and an institution’s location does not tell you whether it enrols students from your country.
New media arts refers to art that engages with emerging and evolving media, including video, sound, interactive installation, networked and online work, performance with technology and, in some programs, biological or data-driven approaches. The field is defined less by a single material than by questions about technology, society and perception.
Study is usually project-based and cross-disciplinary. Students build work that may combine code, electronics, projection, sound and physical space, while reading and writing about media theory and art history. Critique and collaboration are central, and students are encouraged to question the tools they use as well as the ideas they express.
New media arts overlaps with digital arts, which may be more centered on craft and software workflows, and with fine arts, which spans many traditional media. It differs from film and video production, which has a narrower focus on moving-image craft, and from game art and design, which aims at playable work. Institutions label these programs differently, such as intermedia, time-based media or art and technology.
Award titles. New media arts is commonly studied within BA, BA (Hons) or BFA programs and, at postgraduate level, MA or MFA degrees. Some countries offer research degrees including practice-based PhDs. Titles vary widely, so rely on the official program page.
New media arts frequently appears as a concentration or area within fine arts or media degrees, sometimes titled intermedia or time-based media. The directory lists a program under this subject only with a verified dedicated degree, major, official concentration or documented pathway.
Requirements differ for every program. Always check the official admissions page; this directory cannot guarantee acceptance.
Applicants to new media programs are often asked for a portfolio that can include video, sound, interactive pieces, documentation of installations, drawings or writing. Programs generally look for curiosity and a sense of direction rather than specific technical skills.
Requirements vary by country and program. Some ask for web links or file uploads with set limits, and some hold interviews. Postgraduate programs typically expect a coherent body of work and a statement of intent.
Confirm formats, limits and deadlines on each official admissions page. Admission is never guaranteed, and no universal template applies.

At MFA and PhD level, funding in some programs may include teaching assistantships, lab or studio technician roles, research assistantships, tuition remission or competitive scholarships.
Terms vary by program, country and year, and many students receive partial or no support. Verify details directly with the program and funding bodies.
Costs beyond tuition. Students often pay for electronics, projectors, sensors, computers and software, storage, and costs of installing and documenting work.
