How results are ordered: alphabetically by institution, or by most recently checked when you choose that sort. There is no price ranking, because tuition in different currencies, fee categories and bases (per year, per credit, whole program) is not comparable. A program appears under a subject only through a verified link (dedicated degree, major, concentration or documented pathway). A value we could not verify is shown as “not published”, never as “no”. Items marked Sponsored are paid placements; they never change verification or order. Online programs are not counted as physically located in a state or city, and an institution’s location does not tell you whether it enrols students from your country.
Film and video production degrees teach students to make moving-image work, from short narrative and documentary films to experimental and installation pieces. Study usually covers direction, cinematography, lighting, sound, editing and producing, along with screenwriting and the history and theory of cinema. Teaching typically combines practical shoots with analysis of existing work.
Programs tend to be project-based, with students working in crews and then on individual projects. Equipment, studios, editing suites and sound facilities are often central, and students learn the workflow from development and pre-production through shooting to post-production and distribution. Collaboration, critique and an understanding of audiences and ethics are recurring themes.
This directory lists art-focused and production-focused programs. It does not include computing or engineering degrees, such as those centered on software or imaging systems. Film differs from photography, which is still-image work, and from animation, which generates movement frame by frame. Some programs emphasize narrative cinema, others emphasize documentary, artists’ moving image or broadcast-style production.
Award titles. Film and video production is commonly studied within BA, BA (Hons) or BFA programs and, at postgraduate level, MA or MFA degrees. Some countries offer research degrees including practice-based PhDs. Award titles vary, so rely on the official program page.
Film and video production often appears as a major, a concentration within a media or fine arts degree or an MFA pathway. The directory lists a program under this subject only with a verified dedicated degree, major, official concentration or documented pathway.
Requirements differ for every program. Always check the official admissions page; this directory cannot guarantee acceptance.
Applicants to film programs are often asked for a portfolio that may include short films, scripts, photographs, written work or other creative evidence, along with a statement of interests. Prior filmmaking experience is not always required at undergraduate level, while postgraduate programs commonly expect finished work.
Requirements vary by country and program. Some ask for a link to a short film with a set maximum length, some for a treatment or script sample, and some hold interviews or practical tests. Programs may specify formats and platforms.
Confirm formats, limits and deadlines on each official admissions page. Admission is never guaranteed, and no universal template applies.

At MFA and PhD level, funding in some programs may include teaching assistantships, equipment or studio roles, tuition remission, production grants or competitive scholarships.
Terms vary by program, country and year, and many students receive partial or no support. Verify details directly with the program and funding bodies.
Costs beyond tuition. Students often pay for production costs such as equipment hire, locations, props and crew, along with storage, software, festival submissions and sometimes personal equipment.
