How results are ordered: alphabetically by institution, or by most recently checked when you choose that sort. There is no price ranking, because tuition in different currencies, fee categories and bases (per year, per credit, whole program) is not comparable. A program appears under a subject only through a verified link (dedicated degree, major, concentration or documented pathway). A value we could not verify is shown as “not published”, never as “no”. Items marked Sponsored are paid placements; they never change verification or order. Online programs are not counted as physically located in a state or city, and an institution’s location does not tell you whether it enrols students from your country.

About art education in United Kingdom

How art education is organised

Art and design in the UK is mostly taught as undergraduate BA (Hons) degrees, commonly three years full-time and entered through UCAS with a portfolio, and as master's degrees titled MA. A small number of institutions use the MFA and BFA titles (for example Oxford's Ruskin School of Art), and research degrees are PhD or DPhil. Home and international tuition fees are published separately, and fees differ between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Qualification structures

Names and levels are local to United Kingdom. Similar names in other countries are not interchangeable.

BA (Hons)
The usual undergraduate art and design award, for example a three-year BA (Hons) Fine Art, sometimes with an optional placement year. Source
MA
The usual taught master's title in art and design, for example the one-year full-time MA programmes at the Royal College of Art. Source
BFA, MFA and DPhil
Used by a minority of providers, for example Oxford's Ruskin School of Art offers a Bachelor of Fine Art, a Masters in Fine Art (MFA) and a DPhil; Goldsmiths offers an MFA Fine Art. Source

Bodies that matter, and what each one does

Accreditation, validation, education authority and qualification registers are different roles. Do not read a listing by one body as evidence from another.

Office for Students (OfS)
Regulator of higher education providers in England; the RCA states it is regulated by the OfS.
